Anthony van Hoboken, born on March 23, 1887 in Rotterdam (the Netherlands), published 1957 a comprehensive list of Joseph Haydn's works titled "J. Haydn, thematic-bibliographic catalog of works".

Meanwhile further works were discovered, for some peices Haydn's authority is disputed. The well-known Haydn biographer Harold Robbins Landon already made changes in Hoboken's catalog. Hoboken died November 1, 1983 in Zurich (Switzerland).
