At "hoher Markt" this clock shows the time by passing figures. The figures run through once a day at noon (12 a.m.), constructed by Franz von Matsch 1911. This is said to be the oldest square in Vienna.
The socalled Ankeruhr is constructed at Ankerhof connecting the two buildings of the insurance company Gesellschaft für Lebens und Renten-Versicherungen "Der Anker", founded 1858 with 2mio crowns capital. 1911 Anker-company determined the construction of the clock after plans of Prof.Franz von Matsch. The clock-bridge, constructed 1914-1915, is 10m long, the height in the middle is 7.5m. The round window in the middle is 4m diameter. Daily the organ, containing 1000 pipes, behind the lattice plays quot;Gott erhalte". The clock shows the time in a very simple way: The twelve figures show the hour with a roman number over the heads, the minutes are shown by an arrow above the head on a vertical scale.
