Constructed 1874 - 1888 by Carl von Hasenauer after plans by Gottfried Semper. The Nationaltheatre (Hof- und Nationaltheater), which was founded in 1776 by Kaiser Joseph II. moved here 1888.The facade is in Renaissance-style. Inside are among others frescos by Gustav and Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch.The relief "March of Bacchus (Bacchuszug)" is by Rudolf Weyr.
